Dr Martin McMahon is Associate Professor and Head of Discipline in Intellectual Disability Nursing at Trinity College Dublin. A registered nurse in intellectual disability, children’s, and nurse tutor divisions, he holds a PhD, MSc, BNSc (Hons), and Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. His clinical background includes paediatric nephrology, life-limiting conditions, community intellectual disability nursing, and psychiatry of intellectual disability, where he worked as an independent prescriber. Martin’s research focuses on health inequalities for people with intellectual disabilities, particularly cancer care. He is Principal Investigator on studies funded by the Health Research Board and Irish Cancer Society, Associate Director of the Trinity Centre for Ageing and Intellectual Disability, and Work Group Leader on the European COST Action CUPID. As Co-applicant on IDS-TILDA, he contributes to research on cancer, mental health, and end-of-life care involving over 750 older adults with intellectual disabilities in Ireland.
